The conflict between Israel and Iran reached new heights on Monday, following a direct military strike by the United States against three Iranian nuclear facilities. In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei condemned the attacks as a “big crime” and vowed immediate retaliation against both Israel and the US.
Ayatollah Khamenei, speaking in his first public statement since the US intervention, did not mince words:
“The Zionist enemy has made a big mistake, committed a big crime; it must be punished — and it is being punished right now.”
The US airstrikes — which targeted nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — mark America’s first official entry into the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, which erupted on June 13 when Israeli airstrikes struck Iranian positions.
President Donald Trump had initially distanced his country from the crisis, but on Sunday, he confirmed the US involvement:
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran… NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!” he declared via social media.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly praised Trump’s decision, calling the attacks “bold, righteous, and historic.”
Since the start of hostilities, hundreds of lives have been lost on both sides. Iran reports more than 400 deaths and over 3,056 injuries, while Israel has recorded at least 27 fatalities and hundreds more wounded.
Despite Trump’s call for peace, tensions are far from easing. In a fiery statement, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned:
“The Americans must receive a response to their aggression.”
Just hours after the US strikes, Iran retaliated with a fresh wave of missiles targeting northern and central Israel, injuring at least 86 people. Several military installations and civilian structures have been destroyed in both nations as tit-for-tat attacks continue.
Adding further fuel to the crisis, President Trump suggested that “regime change” may now be on the US agenda, hinting that the Ayatollah-led government had failed its people:
“It’s not politically correct to use the term ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be regime change? MIGA!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
With both Iran and Israel trading deadly blows, and the US now directly involved, the situation threatens to spiral into an even wider regional conflict. For now, the death toll continues to climb — and the world watches anxiously for what comes next.
