Afrobeats legend Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has broken his silence following recent speculations that he may be facing financial hardship. Speaking on a viral episode of the +234 Mzansi Podcast, the African Queen crooner dismissed the rumours, insisting he is comfortable with or without music — thanks to smart investments and a different outlook on fame.
In a rare and introspective conversation with podcast co-host and media personality Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka Nedu, 2Baba calmly set the record straight:
“I’m not broke. I invested my money. I can live with or without music.”
The 48-year-old music icon revealed that although he is not in the headlines every day or splashing luxury content on social media like some of his contemporaries, he has made solid financial decisions that afford him a peaceful, secure life.
“I don’t have anything to prove to anybody anymore. I’ve done my part, and I’m still doing things behind the scenes,” he said, indicating that his legacy in music is intact and his priorities have shifted.
2Baba, whose career has spanned over two decades with classic hits and numerous awards, emphasised that public perception doesn’t always reflect reality. Addressing online chatter comparing him to more “visible” younger artists, he added:
“Not everybody has to be on the gram 24/7 to prove success. I’m chilling.”
The singer’s comments sparked mixed reactions online. While many fans praised his humility and long-term vision, others questioned the silence that has surrounded his music career in recent years. But 2Baba appeared unbothered — noting that fame is no longer his driving force.
In an era where social media visibility is often mistaken for financial stability, 2Baba’s quiet confidence offers a refreshing reminder of the value of legacy, privacy, and smart planning. The once-rampant speculation around his finances may now be put to rest — at least for those willing to believe the man himself.
As rumours fade and the music pioneer continues to focus on life beyond the limelight, one thing is clear: 2Baba isn’t chasing clout — he’s living a life he carefully built. Whether on stage or in silence, his presence in the industry remains undeniable. For those asking “how did the money finish?” — the answer, according to 2Baba, is simple: It didn’t.
