2027 Countdown Begins: ADC Coalition Sparks Panic in APC

In what appears to be the strongest opposition front yet against President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, key political heavyweights from APC, PDP, and Labour Party have officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The dramatic power shift, unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, includes former governors, ex-ministers, and political influencers who say they are “done watching Nigeria collapse under silence.”

The new coalition, spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has now formally adopted the ADC as its political vehicle. This move follows months of secretive talks, defections, and agitation from within the major opposition camps.

Among those who have made their switch official:

Emeka Ihedioha

Former Imo State Governor and PDP chieftain, Ihedioha publicly declared his allegiance to ADC during a meeting with his “Rebuild Imo Movement” in Owerri.

“My party, your party, our party is now ADC,” he told supporters — formally ending speculation over his next political move since dumping PDP in April 2024.

Rotimi Amaechi

The former Minister of Transportation didn’t mince words. At the unveiling of the new ADC interim executive, Amaechi declared Nigeria to be “a failed state,” accusing the APC and INEC of preparing to rig the 2027 polls.

“There must be a total overhaul,” he warned, painting a grim picture of the country’s inflation and rising poverty.

Abubakar Malami

One of the most controversial figures of the Buhari administration, ex-AGF Malami formally left the APC and aligned with the ADC. Sources say his defection was sealed after attending the coalition’s closed-door meeting on restructuring the ADC into a national opposition force.

Ayomide Salako

A popular political influencer on social media, Salako announced his defection from the Labour Party via X (formerly Twitter), stating that his membership with ADC was driven by the need for “grassroots change.”

“If our presence can’t do it, our money should,” he posted, pledging to pay dues to his ward in Ogun State.

Power Takeover: ADC Executives Step Down

In a rare and bold move, existing ADC national executives stepped aside to allow the Atiku-led coalition take full control. As part of the reformation, Senator David Mark was appointed interim national chairman, while Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun governor and ex-minister, takes over as secretary.

To bolster public image and media control, Bolaji Abdullahi, former sports minister and former APC spokesman, was appointed interim publicity secretary.

What This Means:

This is not just another coalition. It’s an outright political hijack with one mission — to end Tinubu’s rule in 2027.

The message to the APC is unambiguous: Prepare for war at the ballot box.

A source within the coalition confirmed:

“This is not about Atiku, Obi, or Amaechi individually. This is about rescuing Nigeria and forming a common front. The house is burning — and the people want firemen, not politicians.”

With Tinubu’s camp still battling fallout from Ganduje’s resignation and growing discontent from within, this ADC-led opposition front could become the most potent threat the APC has faced since its inception.

One thing is clear:
The 2027 elections have already begun — and Nigeria’s political map is being redrawn, coalition by coalition, betrayal by betrayal.
