Lionel Messi has set a new milestone in Major League Soccer, becoming the first player to score two or more goals in four consecutive MLS games. The 38-year-old Argentine star was once again the difference as Inter Miami secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over New England Revolution.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner delivered another clinical performance on Saturday night, scoring twice in the first half to seal the win for Miami. His brace brought his season tally to 14 goals in just 15 MLS appearances, solidifying his position as one of the most dominant players in the league’s history.
Messi first found the net in the 27th minute, converting a left-footed strike from inside the box. He doubled the lead 11 minutes later after receiving a brilliant long pass from long-time teammate Sergio Busquets, before curling it into the net with his trademark composure.
Though New England’s Carles Gil pulled one back in the 79th minute, Inter Miami held firm to secure all three points—lifting them to fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.
Coach’s Tribute
Reacting after the match, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano hailed Messi’s consistency and brilliance.
“I always say Leo is a special player. For me, the best player that has ever played this sport,” said Mascherano.
“He keeps doing things that, even after all these years, still amaze us. We are lucky to have him.”
This latest double continues a red-hot scoring streak for Messi, who returned to MLS action with a bang after competing in the Club World Cup. While he scored just once in four appearances during Miami’s run that ended in the round of 16 against PSG, he has made up for it domestically—starting with a 4-1 win over Montreal last week.
Messi’s four-game scoring run began in May, with standout performances against Montreal (4-2) and Columbus (5-1), further cementing his legacy in North American football.
But the records don’t stop there:
- Most goals in four consecutive MLS games (8 goals total).
- MLS record for most assists in a single match (five).
- Most goal contributions in one game (six), all achieved in a 6-2 win over New York Red Bulls.
- Highest total goal contributions in Inter Miami history (58).
Messi’s latest achievement adds to a growing list of MLS accolades, as the football icon continues to rewrite the record books in America just as he did in Europe. For Inter Miami fans, every game is another reminder that they’re witnessing something historic—game after game.
