The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has expressed confidence in his party’s chances ahead of the November 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, declaring that there is effectively “no contest” in the race.
Speaking on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television breakfast programme on Wednesday, Ezeokenwa said the people of Anambra are overwhelmingly satisfied with the performance of the APGA-led administration, particularly under Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the last three years.
“Anambra people can say, ‘We’ve never had it this good in just three years by any elected officials in the past.’ That is the consensus opinion on the streets of Anambra. And in that context, I can tell you, well, there is no contest really,” he said.
According to Ezeokenwa, the level of development recorded under APGA since it assumed leadership in the state in 2006 has resonated strongly with the electorate, reinforcing public confidence in the party’s leadership and vision.
“On the streets of Anambra, the general opinion is clear, and that is that the state is still very much with APGA. They have not seen any reason to change the trajectory of development that they have witnessed from 2006 to date,” he added.
Ezeokenwa’s comments follow the recent release of the final list of candidates for the November election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). While acknowledging the competitive nature of elections, he argued that current political realities in the state suggest APGA enjoys dominant support.
He attributed the party’s enduring popularity to its consistent delivery on development promises and its people-centered ideology, which he said has been well received by voters.
“It appears in Anambra we are tilting towards a consensus candidate, because there is a consensus of opinion, given the massive and excellent performance of the incumbent and APGA-driven ideology,” Ezeokenwa noted.
With official campaigns expected to commence in the coming months, APGA says it remains focused on consolidating its achievements and communicating its vision to the people of Anambra ahead of the polls.
