The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Jigawa State has issued a strong warning to former Governor Sule Lamido over controversial claims in his newly launched autobiography. Speaking on behalf of the party, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim — NNPP leader and the party’s 2023 governorship candidate — vowed to expose Lamido if the former governor continues to spread false narratives.
Ringim’s comments came during a party meeting in Taura Local Government Area on Wednesday, following the recent release of Lamido’s autobiography, “Being True to Myself.” The book recounts Nigeria’s political landscape from the end of the Second Republic, through the military era, and into the Fourth Republic.
However, Ringim took issue with several portions of the book, accusing Lamido of distorting facts and painting an inaccurate picture of his political career.
“In the book, Lamido portrays himself as an honest leader who has never wronged anyone throughout his political life — but that is far from the truth,” Ringim said pointedly.
According to him, the former governor misrepresented several events and relationships, unfairly accusing others in the process. Ringim cited passages where Lamido blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan for the arrest of his son, Abdulsalam Abubakar, and also accused Ibrahim Babangida and others of wronging him.
Ringim further condemned Lamido’s suggestion that the PDP’s loss in the 2015 gubernatorial election was due to his (Ringim’s) alleged “spiteful and malicious” nature as a candidate.
“To set the record straight,” Ringim declared, “the former governor is fully aware of the role he himself played in PDP’s loss during the 2015 elections, despite the party’s popularity at the time.”
He went on to issue a stern warning: “I know everything about your political journey, your personal life — everything. If you continue to defame me, I will have no choice but to reveal information that will publicly shame you.”
The political rift between Lamido and the NNPP leadership appears to be escalating, with both sides trading accusations. As the controversy over the autobiography continues to unfold, further developments are expected in the coming weeks.
