Arsenal Closing in on €74 Million Striker as Transfer Battle Heats Up Across Premier League Giants

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth up to €74 million, as Premier League clubs ramp up their summer transfer business ahead of the 2025/26 season.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the Gunners have already agreed personal terms with the prolific 26-year-old forward, with discussions between the two clubs entering the final stages. The deal is said to be structured around a €63.5 million initial fee with €10 million in performance-based add-ons.

Gyökeres, who has scored an astonishing 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting, was reportedly left frustrated after being asked to rejoin the Portuguese club’s preseason training camp, prompting him to refuse a flight out of frustration that Sporting had not honoured a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave for the right fee.

The striker’s agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has further pushed the deal along by waiving his €7 million commission to ensure the move goes through. Arsenal have long been in the market for a marquee striker to lead the line, with Gyökeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško being their two top targets this summer.

Mikel Arteta has made it clear that adding firepower to his attack is a top priority, with Gyökeres viewed as a player capable of delivering both goals and hold-up play in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are preparing for a major squad overhaul following their Club World Cup triumph under new manager Enzo Maresca. The Blues are reportedly open to selling Nicolas Jackson and have registered interest in Watford forward Morgan Rogers and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester United are also active in the market, with reports linking them to a potential move for Jackson, as well as Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. United are still working to finalise a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

In north London, Arsenal are not done yet. Reports suggest they are also pushing to sign Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, as well as Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Valencia’s young defender Cristhian Mosquera.

With clubs now accelerating their transfer activity and the new season approaching, the coming days are expected to bring major developments across the top six sides.
