In a scandal that has sent shockwaves across the entertainment world once again, American R&B singer Chris Brown has been granted bail by a UK court — but at a staggering price. The 36-year-old Grammy-winning artist was ordered to pay a jaw-dropping £5 million as a security condition in a grievous bodily harm (GBH) assault case tied to a violent nightclub incident in central London.
High-Stakes Bail: Show Up or Pay Up
Presiding Judge Tony Baumgartner of Southwark Crown Court ruled that Brown could remain free under strict bail conditions, including the eye-watering financial guarantee.
The judge permitted Brown to continue his international tour, which kicks off in Amsterdam on June 8, but warned:
“If he fails to return for court appearances, the £5 million will be forfeited.”
Brown is due to perform in the UK starting June 15, with other scheduled appearances across Europe and the United States through 2025.
The Charge: Brutal Nightclub Assault
The alleged incident, described by authorities as “grievous bodily harm with intent,” reportedly took place on February 19, 2023, at an exclusive nightclub in Hanover Square, London.
According to investigators, the victim, Abraham Diah, was allegedly struck repeatedly with a bottle and pursued, punched, and kicked in a calculated attack involving Brown and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, a 38-year-old U.S. national.
The pair were both charged last week and are due to appear in court again on June 20.
Brown, notably absent from the bail hearing, was arrested at a five-star hotel in Manchester in the early hours of May 13, after flying in on a private jet. Police had been tracking his movements since the assault
