Davido Blasts Troll Over Privilege Sleight on X

In a fiery exchange on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, August 1,  at approximately 10:04 AM, Nigerian superstar Davido (David Adeleke) shut down a troll accusing him of success by birthright rather than talent. He retorted with a crude, personal jab involving the troll’s mother, stating:

“Nah ur mama knack wrong person no be my problem bro.”

The dispute began when a social media user tweeted:

“If no be silver spoon wey them born you with, two of us suppose dey same level by now.”

The troll insinuated that without Davido’s wealthy lineage, they might have been equals—highlighting the singer’s privileged upbringing as a liability rather than an asset. Rather than offering a polished rebuttal, Davido’s visceral response immediately ignited controversy.

This isn’t the first time Davido has addressed criticism about his background. In mid‑July 2025, he wrote:

“This free jet wey I dey fly all around the world dey really pain una… I’m sorry, it’s my birth right. In my next life I go come back as vulcaniser. Ma binu.”

Earlier in May, he addressed tribal tension online by declaring:

“Lol. I am Igbo by blood,” asserting his complex heritage and rejecting divisive stereotyping.

Davido once admitted in an interview (May 14) that he considers himself “the biggest criticized artist in Nigeria,” largely due to the perception of being a rich kid in the music scene.

His latest clap-back builds on a pattern: provocative, unapologetically personal responses that court both applause and backlash.

Online reactions have been explosive. Some fans praised his confidence and refusal to be shamed; others condemned the use of parental disrespect.

A few notable comments from cybernauts:

  • “If you win Grammy make i kpai” – keeping it light but sarcastic.
  • “If you actually respect ur mum. You won’t be saying something like this about someone else’s mum.” – @moe4dem
  • “Involving someone’s parents in conversation like this… signifies you’re mannerless” – @iam_Puffbaby

Some supporters argued that his success—despite privilege—was still earned through talent and persistence.

Davido, son of billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, has long been under scrutiny for alleged reliance on wealth. But he has repeatedly emphasized hard work, consistency, and creative ambition as the forces behind his career. His 2025 album, 5ive, features global collaborations with Victoria Monét, Chris Brown, Becky G, and others, and cemented his artistic evolution.

Still, his willingness to confront critics head-on—often in emotionally charged, even insulting language—has fueled conversation: is he defending himself or perpetuating cycles of public antagonism?
Davido’s latest spat is dramatic, widely circulated, and likely not the last time he’ll engage with online critics in this style. As he continues navigating fame, wealth, and expectations, the question remains: will future responses build unity—or widen divides? We’ll continue monitoring updates as the story unfolds
