In what could be another transfer setback for Manchester United, highly-rated Swiss midfielder Ardon Jashari appears set to snub a move to Old Trafford — with AC Milan now preparing an aggressive push for his signature.
Reliable Belgian sources revealed that Milan are readying an opening bid of €30 million (around £25m/$34m), which will include bonuses, in their pursuit of the 21-year-old Club Brugge star. However, Brugge’s management are holding firm on their valuation of €40 million (£34m/$46m), following the player’s remarkable season in Belgium.
It’s a disappointing development for Manchester United, who had shown serious interest in bringing Jashari to the Premier League. Sources suggest that while United and Fulham presented concrete offers, the Swiss international was not fully convinced by the sporting projects on offer — particularly with United’s future under Erik ten Hag still clouded in uncertainty after a rocky season.
The player’s change of heart comes after German side Borussia Dortmund pulled out of the race, unwilling to match Brugge’s financial demands. That withdrawal has seemingly paved the way for Milan to move decisively — and quickly — for the player.
For Milan, the pursuit of Jashari has now become a top priority. New head coach Massimiliano Allegri, determined to rebuild his midfield, sees the Swiss star as a cornerstone of his new-look Rossoneri side. With their earlier moves for Granit Xhaka and Javi Guerra stalling, Milan’s management — led by sporting director Igli Tare — view Jashari as an ideal alternative to inject fresh energy into the squad.
Jashari, who has just won both the Belgian Pro League Player of the Year and Belgian Young Player of the Year awards, is believed to be drawn to Milan’s rich history and footballing project. Insiders say the idea of stepping onto the pitch at the iconic San Siro is a dream he has long harbored.
It’s worth noting that Milan had previously conducted lengthy negotiations with Club Brugge in 2022, when they secured Charles De Ketelaere — though that particular move ultimately failed to live up to expectations, with De Ketelaere later sold to Atalanta.
Now, Milan are determined not to repeat that misstep and see Jashari as a player who could truly thrive under Allegri’s guidance.
As things stand, Milan are considered favourites to land the midfielder. Manchester United, meanwhile, face yet another transfer setback — one that raises further questions about their appeal in a summer where they are desperate to rebuild.
The coming weeks will reveal if Milan’s financial package and sporting project can seal the deal, but one thing is clear — Jashari’s heart appears to be set on Serie A, not the Premier League.
