Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes are among six players shortlisted for the prestigious 2024-25 Men’s PFA Player of the Year award, set to be announced at a glittering ceremony on August 19 at Manchester Opera House.
The award, voted for annually by players across the league, recognises the standout performer of the season.
Joining Salah and Fernandes on this year’s list are Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Chelsea sensation Cole Palmer, and Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak — all of whom delivered stellar campaigns for their respective clubs.
Salah — already a two-time winner of the award (2017-18, 2021-22) — enters as the favourite after a phenomenal season, scoring 29 league goals and providing 18 assists, helping new Liverpool boss Arne Slot guide the club to the Premier League title.
Teammate Mac Allister is also recognised for his crucial role in that title-winning side, with the Argentine international making 35 league appearances and contributing consistently throughout the campaign.
Despite Manchester United’s turbulent season, Fernandes earned his place on the list through sheer individual brilliance. The Portuguese midfielder contributed eight league goals and ten assists, and made history in Europe by becoming the player with the most goal contributions in UEFA Europa League history — also leading United to the competition’s final.
Last season’s Young Player of the Year, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, secured his first nomination for the main prize after an outstanding breakthrough season, scoring 15 Premier League goals and helping Chelsea return to Champions League football.
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak also enjoyed a standout season, scoring 23 league goals and playing a pivotal role in delivering Newcastle’s first major trophy in over 50 years — netting in the League Cup final at Wembley.
Rounding out the shortlist is England midfielder Declan Rice, who delivered a career-best season for Arsenal — scoring nine goals, providing 10 assists, and putting in commanding performances across 52 matches in all competitions.
As the August 19 awards night draws near, anticipation is building over who will be crowned this season’s top player — with Salah currently tipped to reclaim the honour once again.
