Regina Daniels sends man who accused her to prison

What started as a social media outburst may now cost one TikToker his freedom. Gabriel Timothy, known on TikTok as Tumma, has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre following serious charges stemming from a viral video in which he allegedly defamed Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, who is also the wife of Senator Ned Nwoko.

The Federal High Court in Abuja is now weighing whether to grant Tumma bail or keep him behind bars. A decision is expected on July 25, 2025.

From TikTok to Courtroom Drama
The trouble began when Tumma, in one of his controversial online videos, accused Regina Daniels of engaging in multiple extramarital affairs. He went as far as daring her husband, Senator Nwoko, to respond publicly.

According to the senator, Tumma’s accusations weren’t just reckless—they were vulgar, damaging, and calculated to destroy both his wife’s image and their family’s reputation.

Legal documents reveal that Tumma is being charged with defamation, cyberstalking, and injurious falsehood, all offenses under Nigerian law that carry weighty penalties.

THE BAIL FIGHT: Liberty vs Consequences
In court on Wednesday, Tumma’s legal team, led by S.M. Oyeghe, urged Justice Yilwa H. Joseph to grant him bail, citing his constitutional rights to personal liberty and fair trial.

“We are only asking the court to grant our client bail on liberal terms,” Oyeghe pleaded.

However, the prosecuting counsel disagreed, arguing that Tumma had not presented sufficient grounds to deserve bail at this stage. The judge has now adjourned the ruling to July 25, leaving the content creator to remain in custody for at least another week.

NED NWOKO RESPONDS: “Freedom of Speech Is Not Freedom to Defame”
In a strong rebuttal to the rising trend of online character assassination, Senator Nwoko issued a statement defending his wife and calling for accountability.

“There is no democracy anywhere in the world where freedom of speech includes the freedom to defame, blackmail, or incite hatred under the guise of online influence,” Nwoko stated.

He emphasized that people must understand the limits of expression, especially when their words have real-world consequences.

NETIZENS REACT: “Regina Daniels Don Show Say She No Be Small Girl”
Public reactions have been intense and divided. While some praised Regina Daniels for standing her ground, others accused the political couple of using power to silence criticism.

Here are some comments from Nigerians online:

  • @Blaq_Oracle: “Regina Daniels get power o. Na so person go talk small, boom! Court straight. Freedom of speech don choke.”
  • @DonFlexxy: “But make una talk true — was the guy lying or nah? Abi na oppression we dey witness like this?”
  • @AdaBaby_01: “You don’t drag a billionaire’s wife and expect zero consequences. This na hard lesson.”
  • @RealZee: “Internet no get brake again. People just dey talk anyhow without proof. Regina and Ned no send una.”
  • @Musa4Naija: “This one go serve as example. Clout-chasing no be career — especially when billionaires dey involved.”

VDM’s Take: A Repeat Offender?

Popular social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) also weighed in. According to him, he had once met Tumma in detention during a previous incident where Tumma accused First Lady Oluremi Tinubu of having a secret lover.

VDM claims he begged multiple times to get Tumma released back then—only to see him return to the same path.

“He no learn. You no go dey defame everybody just to trend and expect say nothing go happen,” VDM said in frustration.

A Battle Between Free Speech and Responsibility

As the July 25 bail ruling approaches, many Nigerians are watching this case closely. Is this a clampdown on free speech, or a necessary stand against reckless defamation?

For now, Tumma remains in detention, a trending influencer turned prisoner — all for content that may have crossed the line between commentary and criminality.
