Sanusi Alleges Palace Vandalism by Bayero’s Supporters

Tensions in Kano’s royal circle have once again spilled into public confrontation, as the 15th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has accused loyalists of his rival, the 15th Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, of orchestrating a violent attack and vandalism at his palace.

The allegations were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Sadam Yakasai, a member of the media team attached to Sanusi’s Gidan Rumfa palace. According to the release, the incident occurred while Emir Sanusi was away from the palace, allowing what was described as an “invasion” by suspected hoodlums allegedly loyal to Bayero.

“They broke the gate and attacked the guards, injuring some of them,” Yakasai stated. “They also smashed police vehicles stationed at the palace.”

The statement further alleged that the attack was not random but deliberately incited. Yakasai claimed Bayero passed through the palace route — an unusual path — as a calculated move to provoke or assert dominance in the area.

“Aminu deliberately passed through the Emir’s palace road instead of taking the proper route from Koki to Nassarawa,” Yakasai said. “His hoodlums decided to attack Gidan Rumfa. This is not the first time he has done so. He had previously taken that path after visiting his Mandawari residence, in what we see as a pattern of intimidation.”

The clash is the latest flare-up in the ongoing tussle for the Kano throne, a conflict that has fractured public opinion and created pockets of tension across the city.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has confirmed that an altercation did occur and that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development and disclosed that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

“Yes, there was a confrontation between the supporters of the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and those of the 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II,” Haruna said. “Four persons have been taken into custody. A panel has been set up by the Commissioner to thoroughly investigate the altercation.”

As the royal feud deepens, concerns continue to mount over the potential destabilisation of Kano’s delicate peace. Analysts warn that unless authorities decisively address the crisis, further clashes could occur.

No official statement has yet been issued by the Bayero camp regarding the latest allegations.
