Terror in the Night: Gunmen Invade Abuja Estate, Abduct Residents in Daring Midnight Raid

Panic gripped the Grow Homes Estate in Chikakore, Kubwa—Abuja’s largest suburban town—in the early hours of Monday as a gang of heavily armed kidnappers stormed the estate, abducting several residents in an operation that lasted over an hour.

Residents who survived the chilling ordeal said the attack occurred between 12am and 1:30am, with the gunmen overpowering the local vigilance group and operating freely while terrified families hid indoors, praying for their lives.

According to eyewitness accounts, a man and a woman were seen being taken away by the assailants. However, in a puzzling twist, the woman was later found alive and alone inside the estate, reportedly released by the kidnappers for reasons still unknown.

“The whole thing was like a war movie,” one shaken resident recounted. “They came in with serious firepower and overwhelmed our local security. We couldn’t even call for help on time because there’s barely any network coverage here.”

Another resident, who preferred anonymity, called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Nigeria Police to urgently intervene. “The police eventually arrived around 1am, and there was serious gunfire for over 30 minutes. But that road is bad—security can’t access us easily. We need a police post here before this becomes another bandit haven.”

At the time of filing this report, the exact number of those abducted remained unclear, with families still scrambling to account for loved ones.

This latest attack comes as Abuja continues to face an uptick in criminal activities in its outskirts, raising fresh concerns over safety in the capital city’s once serene suburbs.

Security forces have yet to release an official statement on the incident, and the total number of abductees remains unknown. Residents are now demanding urgent infrastructural and security intervention. As tension hangs heavy in the air, many are left wondering—who’s next?

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
