In a decisive show of force, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully foiled two separate terrorist attacks on Buratai and Mallam Fatori communities in Borno State, leaving dozens of insurgents dead and recovering heavy weapons. The attacks, which occurred on Thursday, June 5, 2025, were repelled through coordinated ground and air strikes.
According to a statement released by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations (Operation Hadin Kai), troops acted swiftly and decisively to dismantle the attempted assaults by the terrorists.
“The ground troops and the Air Component worked hand-in-hand to neutralise the threat. What the terrorists met was overwhelming resistance and superior firepower,” the army spokesperson said.
In Buratai, located in Biu Local Government Area, the terrorists launched a surprise attack in the early hours, hoping to breach the army’s defenses by approaching from multiple directions. But their plan quickly fell apart when troops responded with heavy gunfire and coordinated close air support.
Captain Kovangiya confirmed that the corpses of many terrorists were recovered at the scene, alongside AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs), and other deadly weapons.
“The level of destruction inflicted upon the insurgents reaffirms our resolve to crush terrorism in all its forms,” he stated.
In a similar attack on Mallam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area, insurgents faced the same fate. Security forces, already on high alert, engaged the terrorists aggressively, pushing them back and launching a hot pursuit into surrounding areas.
Kovangiya added that “the military remains committed to denying terrorists freedom of action anywhere in the region,” noting that the operation remains ongoing as troops continue mop-up efforts in the general area.
While normalcy has since returned to the affected communities, military presence has been intensified to prevent further incursions. No civilian casualties have been reported at the time of filing this report. However, the Army has called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security operatives.
More updates are expected as the military sustains momentum in the offensive against terrorism in the North-East.
