Tragedy in Daura: 23-Year-Old Housewife Arrested for Stabbing Co-Wife to Death Amid Domestic Dispute

In a shocking and heartbreaking incident that has left the Daura community in deep mourning, a late-night domestic dispute between co-wives turned deadly on Friday, May 24th, when a 23-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old co-wife to death.

According to a statement released by the Katsina State Police Command on Sunday, the fatal confrontation took place in Sabon Gari area of Daura, behind Dadi Primary School, under the Daura Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed that a distress report was filed around 11pm by one Nasir Yusuf, the husband of both women. Upon returning from the market, Yusuf found his first wife, Zainab Lawal, lying lifeless in a pool of her own blood, with multiple knife wounds.

“The DPO immediately led a team of operatives to the scene. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, but was sadly declared dead on arrival,” the police statement read.

The Confession That Shook the Community
Investigations swiftly led to the arrest of the second wife, Rabi’a Labaran, aged 23, who confessed to the crime. According to the police, Rabi’a admitted that a domestic quarrel between her and the late Zainab escalated into a violent scuffle, which tragically ended in bloodshed.

Authorities say investigation is still ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

Police Warn Against Domestic Violence

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, has since called on the public to steer clear of violence within households and communities. He emphasized that personal grievances should never be settled through bloodshed or vigilante justice.

“This incident is a grim reminder of the dangers of unresolved domestic tension. We are urging everyone to seek lawful and peaceful resolution of disputes. Taking the law into your own hands not only destroys lives but also erodes societal order,” he warned.

Residents of Sabon Gari were left stunned, many expressing disbelief that such a tragedy could unfold within a household. Elders in the community are now urging religious and traditional leaders to ramp up counseling efforts for polygamous homes, where tensions often simmer beneath the surface.
This gut-wrenching case underscores the fragile nature of human relationships, especially within polygamous settings. As investigations continue, one thing remains clear — justice must be served, and deeper community conversations around conflict resolution and mental health must begin.
