“I’m Not Leaving APC” — Okorocha Denies Viral Reports Targeting His Loyalty

Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator for Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a firm response, Okorocha described the reports as false, mischievous, and driven by those who are threatened by his political relevance.

For days now, social media has been flooded with a fabricated quote falsely attributed to Okorocha, where he allegedly said:
“APC is no longer a political party but a party desperate to hijack power at all costs. I’m at the corner looking at them.”

But in a statement released on Tuesday by his media adviser, Sam Onwuemeodo, the former governor clarified that he never made such a statement and has no intention of dumping the APC, a party he helped build from the ground up.

“Why would I say a party that’s been in power since 2015 is desperate to hijack power? What power again?” Okorocha questioned, pointing out the obvious contradiction.

The statement emphasized that Okorocha remains a committed and bonafide member of the APC and that those peddling the false narrative are individuals who have long been uncomfortable with his political presence.

Okorocha also reminded the public of his early sacrifice for the party, stating that he was the only sitting governor from the South-East who joined APC during its formation, at a time when many regional leaders doubted the party’s future. His decision, he said, came with mockery and political risks, yet he stood firm.

Due to his loyalty and commitment, he was unanimously elected as the pioneer Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, playing a major role in shaping the APC’s success.

Okorocha has now made it clear — he is not leaving the APC, and any talk suggesting otherwise should be ignored. He also warned Nigerians to be mindful of fake news being circulated by those envious of his political journey.

For now, there are no signs of defection or division from Okorocha’s camp. But given the unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics, we’ll be watching for any significant developments.
